Our client have an exciting opportunity available for an individual to join their Building Control team. You will support the BC Team in the South and you will act as the technical lead for a team of eight home-based Building Control Surveyors. You will control and monitor their workload and audit their competency in accordance with CICAIR requirements. The post-holder will be expected to be an ambassador for the BC service and regularly liaise with clients. The output is a well-managed, engaged and well-motivated team capable of high levels of professionalism.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as technical lead and provide direction to a remote team of BC Project Managers, ensuring that individuals are given clear guidance and goals, that they understand what is required of them and that they understand the mechanism for monitoring and performance reviews.

  • Oversee Surveyor’s performance using data reports to analyses and monitor KPI’s, as well as continually driving motivation, engagement and encouraging discretionary effort.

  • Carry out Surveyor Quality Reviews (SQR’s) on BC Project Managers, recognising achievement and identifying development areas, formulating and delivering training plans.

  • Undertake own personal workload of complex projects (xx% of overall workload)

  • Ensure a workload balance (active sites and difficulty factor) across the team

  • Oversee personal issues such as holidays, absence, expenses and training across the team

  • Liaise effectively with counterparts in our warranty surveying service and the Business Development / Sales teams.

  • At all times be a technical vanguard for the company

  • Assessing potential new business opportunities and undertake joint & individual meetings with existing clients, potential customers to promote business opportunities.

  • Undertake any other duties as reasonably required.

Person Specification:

  • Part / Full member of professional organisations: MRICS / MCABE or similar in the appropriate discipline of Building Control.

  • 5 years relevant BC experience, plan check and site inspections and relevant warranty, quality or defect resolution experience.

  • Appropriate knowledge and understanding of the Building Regulations, associated legislation and construction standards.

  • Basic understanding of latent defect risk management and the methods for mitigating claims.

  • Basic understanding of general insurance principals and terminology desirable.

  • Ability to undertake site inspections to assess both quality and the cause/effect of building defects.

  • Commercial awareness and ability to lead and work as part of a teams

  • Ability to create good working relationships with other construction professionals

  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage own workload within agreed parameters.

  • Demonstrable ability to use own initiative

  •  Ability to motivate self and influence others.

  •  Excellent Customer Services skills and experience of Relationship Management plus be able to investigate and resolve complaints

  • Able to lead and motivate a small team of professionals and ensure they are technically competent and able to undertake all of their duties in good time and with a high degree of professionalism

  • Flexible in personal approach.

  • Working knowledge of MS Outlook (email), MS Word, MS Excel.

  • Full Driving License for use in the UK.
